Studio:

Sparks

Ages 5-7

Friendship, character development, and outdoor play. This studio aims to SPARK your child’s love for learning by connecting to their interests and identifying their passions. One SPARK can light a wildfire of loving to learn! Full and half day options available.

Music

Music at Acton drives everything that we do! Learners sing the Studio Maintenance song, develop Acton anthems as songwriters, and constantly use music to inspire their learning journey. Many Acton learners explore our music room to practice piano and hone their musical skills during Morning Work or free time.

Immersive Art Influence

Every child is an artist at heart. We weave creativity into every aspect of learning, whether is is through storytelling, visual arts, or hands-on projects. We nurture self-expression and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the page. Learners can also explore the Makers Space during the day and dedicated art activities. There are opportunities to paint, mold sculptures, create jewelry, knit, sew, stamp, and so much more.

Play

Play is an incredibly powerful medium for learning, especially at this early age as gross motor skills are developing. Sparks Play encourages learners to use loose parts and materials for imaginative and creative play and fosters skills such as planning, collaborating, becoming resourceful, problem solving, communication, and more.

Mindfulness

Learners practice mediation daily in order to reset their mind, connect with their emotions, and set clear intentions. Our mindfulness approach builds core character qualities and inspires learners to lead with kindness. Additionally, learners practice yoga during breaks or during their devoted mindfulness time.

Montessori for the 21st Century

The Montessori method encourages self-directed learning that promotes independent, motivated learners. We respect Maria Montessori’s approach and apply a flexible version of her philosophy while also emphasizing Socratic discussions and hands on projects. The mesh of this learning style encourages deep critical thinking, reflection, self-management, leadership, and self-government of their environment.

Nature + Reggio Emilia

Sparks draw inspiration from Reggio Emilia, allowing children to lead their learning through hands-on projects and creative exploration. Curiosity comes alive through art, storytelling, tech, and plenty of time outdoors. Guides step back so kids can discover, problem solve, and collaborate naturally. Loose parts play happens outside whenever possible, making nature a key part of the learning experience.
